Thursday 13th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY have taken a commanding lead in the Garenne Group Seniors Golf Championship at La Moye, picking up four-and-a-half points on day one compared to Guernsey’s half.
The Jersey pairings started strongly, particularly Geoff Ramskill and Micky Byrne, who had seven birdies between them in the 12 holes they played before closing out the match at the 12th with a 7 & 6 victory.
Jersey are favourites, having won the inter-insular honours nine times out of 11, and they will look to retain the Golf Challenge Trophy following today’s ten singles matches.
Scores: Terry Smith & Tony Haire beat Pat McKeary & Ricky Allen 7&5; Gerald Binding & Vic Bourgoise bt Dave Collenette/Mervyn Marquand 1 up; Geoff Ramskill & Micky Byrne bt John Gavet & Kevin Lycett 7&6; Charlie Smith & Bart McCarthy bt Rainer Schimek & Lawrence Graham 5&4; Colin Attwood & Jeremy Turpin halved with Mick King & Peter Crossland.
