Jersey continue to impress against top amateur snooker teams

Friday 14th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY drew 9-9 with Northern Ireland yesterday to finish fifth in the snooker Home Internationals in Prestatyn, Wales.

The result underlines an excellent performance against the game’s top amateurs which has placed the Jersey team ahead of Scotland and Guernsey in the table and behind winners England and Ireland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Despite leading 9-4 yesterday, the JBSA side couldn’t capture that crucial last frame and Northern Ireland staged a strong comeback, winning the final five frames to draw.

David Snell won his first frame by potting an excellent pink into the bottom pocket and won the third to take two points from the match.

Gary Britton took his first 64-27 and Chris Alexander won three in his usual fluent style.

Ray Kilmartin, Aaron Canavan and Karl Le Fevre also snapped up a frame to take the score to 9-4 before Northern Ireland won those last five frames to level.

Jersey’s man of the match was Ray Kilmartin, who won a cheque for £100 sponsored by Jersey Classic Car Hire.

Jersey finished sixth in the international tournament, with the Pontins European team finishing second behind England.

Jersey finished behind Ireland Wales and Northern Ireland but ahead of Scotland, Qatar, Guernsey and France.
