New move to ban drinking in St Helier parks
Saturday 15th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
THE St Helier Roads Committee are to meet the States police to discuss a ban on drinking alcohol in all public parks.
The move has been sparked by an increase in the number of drink-related public-order offences occurring in parks where young people are meeting at night. The Roads Committee were due to discuss the issue last week but the meeting was postponed for a month so that they could meet the police and the Home Affairs department. The committee were asked to consider a proposal to ban the consumption of alcohol in People’s Park and the Parade Gardens but believe that such action will only lead people to go to other parks.
