Sick of the sight of rats at Waterfront
Saturday 15th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
TOWN residents say that rats are running riot at the Waterfront.
It is thought that the rodents are living in the sea wall and then surface when the tides are at their highest. Environmental Health have received complaints like those from dog walker Lynne Elvin, who says she is sick of the sight of them. ‘We take our dog for a walk down to the beach or to Les Jardins de la Mer every day at 8 am and 5 pm. Last year, especially in the summer, we were seeing rats regularly in the gardens. I contacted Environmental Health but they told me it wasn’t their responsibility, and that it is the responsibility of whoever owns or occupies the land. They said they would forward my complaints,’ she said. Jersey Harbours and the Waterfront Enterprise Board were contacted, but Mrs Elvin and her husband Darren continued to spot the vermin.
