Pilot killed two days after Jersey display

Monday 17th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

A HURRICANE pilot who was killed on Saturday in a plane crash during an air show in the UK had just taken part in Jersey’s International Air Display.

Brian Brown (49), of Doncaster, died when his privately-owned Second World War fighter crashed into a field while taking part in the Shoreham Air Show in West Sussex. Mr Brown was one of only a handful of Hurricane pilots and had not been due to fly at Shoreham. But he volunteered because the aircraft’s owner was short of pilots over the weekend. Two days earlier, Mr Brown flew his Hurricane with the Messerschmitt 109 in Jersey and took part in a ‘dogfight’ in front of thousands of spectators over St Aubin’s Bay. His aircraft was also photographed over the Island before leaving for Shoreham.
