Looking good

JERSEY has a bright future if States Members take a responsible attitude to spending in the coming years, according to Chief Minister Frank Walker.
Opening the Business Plan debate on £559m worth of spending next year, Senator Walker told the States yesterday that Jersey’s economy was in good shape. ‘The economic picture for Jersey looks bright, and the latest forecasts based on the new health and vitality of Jersey’s economy which has enabled us to cope with the severe hit of the zero-ten regime is very healthy and robust,’ he said. ‘But we must not mortgage the future. Financial discipline will be required over the planning period to maintain balanced budgets.’ The Business Plan sets States spending for 2008 and represents a 7.2% increase on this year.
