Mains drains scheme ordered
Thursday 20th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
TRANSPORT and Technical Services have been ordered to come up with a programme of extending mains drains over the next five years.
Despite the objections of Transport Minister Guy de Faye, Members agreed an amendment to the Business Plan by a narrow 24 votes to 21 yesterday. Members backed an amendment by Deputy James Reed to add a requirement for a programme to be drawn up to extend mains drains in St Saviour, St Peter, St John, Trinity, St Ouen, St Brelade, St Mary, St Martin, Grouville and St Lawrence. At the moment, 87 per cent of Island households are connected to mains drains. Deputy Reed said that the work was expensive, but that home owners could be asked to contribute and developers could be asked to help out through Planning obligations attached to permits.
