A COUPLE who met over a broken teapot celebrate 60 years of married life today.
Angela and Norris Platts, both aged 84, met in January 1947, got engaged in July and married on 20 September the same year. The couple were both living in Bournemouth when they first met. The then Angela Hancock had moved there because her father, a mosaic designer, was working there, as was Mr Platts, who was an airline engineer originally from Yorkshire. ‘We met over a broken teapot in her father’s pottery shop,’ said Mr Platts. ‘I had bought a teapot and I was taking it back to complain because it was broken.’ The couple were married at St Christopher’s Church in Southbourne and the service was followed by a reception at the Tuckton tearooms.
