‘Top notch’ restaurant plan for Gorey
Saturday 22nd September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
MILLIONAIRE David Kirch says he wants to recreate the buzz of St Aubin at Gorey with a new restaurant and piano bar.
Mr Kirch has applied to build a new three-storey restaurant on Gorey Pier modelled on the success of the Boat House at St Aubin. But he may have a fight on his hands, as the scheme involves the demolition of Fountain Court and the Beach House restaurant – both listed as buildings of local interest. Design Plus director Eddie Caldeira, who designed the new building, says it will enhance the whole Gorey area. ‘It’s really something quite special that Mr Kirch wants to do there,’ he said. ‘It’s a really, really nice little scheme and I think if it goes ahead Jersey will have a spot-on restaurant.’ The plans, which are currently out for consultation, include a piano bar in a glass-covered terrace on the roof of the building. The wine bar and restaurant would be on the first and second floors, with terraces to allow al fresco dining.
