Tough new laws to fight laundering

FINANCE workers could face prosecution for negligence under tough new laws.

It will not be good enough for them to say that they did not know that a client was a criminal or was laundering dirty money. The new laws to fight money laundering, and extra confiscation powers for the police, have been lodged for States debate ahead of an international inspection of the finance industry. They also extend money laundering regulations to estate agents, jewellers, lawyers and internet gaming firms.
