National Trust bans mobile phone masts
Tuesday 25th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
MOBILE phone masts will not be allowed on any land owned by the National Trust for Jersey.
Chief executive officer Charles Alluto said that the trust had agreed a blanket ban on masts on its land to protect Jersey’s environment. The decision has been based on the appearance of the masts, not their potential effect on human health. Mr Alluto said that mobile masts had already had a detrimental effect on the Jersey landscape and it was the responsibility of the trust to make sure that this did not happen further. ‘Unfortunately, any badly sited mobile masts can easily mar the landscape for miles around, and in a small island such as Jersey, their accumulative effect can be very damaging,’ he said.
