Flats ‘a first’ for Jersey

Wednesday 26th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

MULTI-million-pound flats that would not look out of place in central London could be built on the hillside above St Brelade’s Bay.

Developers want to demolish Quennevais House on Route Orange and build a huge, mock-Georgian apartment block, designed by world-famous architect Quinlan Terry. The plans for 12 luxury apartments with spectacular views over St Brelade’s Bay will go before Environment Minister Freddie Cohen at a planning meeting on Friday where Mr Terry, known as Prince Charles’s favourite architect, will discuss his scheme and answer questions. Developer John Miller explained that the flats would be the first of their kind in Jersey, each would have more than 5,000 sq ft of floor space and 12 or 13 ft high ceilings. Each apartment would have full concierge service with staff quarters, security, underground parking and storage space. Mr Miller said that the flats were aimed at Islanders who lived in large houses in the countryside and wanted to downsize but still live in a high-quality residence.
