Chase driver spared prison

A MAN who led police on a high-speed car chase through St Helier has been given a lenient sentence by the Royal Court.

In contrast to the Crown’s plea for a four-year prison term, Terry John Mahé (25) will serve two years on probation and 240 hours’ community service, despite the near-fatal journey that ended when the car crashed into security gates at Val de la Mare reservoir. He was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and malicious damage. Mahé, who has over 200 previous convictions comprising numerous breaking and entering, larceny and motoring offences, mounted kerbs, ignored red lights, drove against one-way systems and on the wrong side of the road to shake off police.
