German displays ‘too tasteless’ for trust
Friday 28th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.
LIVING history displays by World War II re-enactment enthusiasts in German uniforms at Mont Orgueil and other historic sites would be insensitive, tasteless and insulting, says the director of the Jersey Heritage Trust.
Jon Carter made the comments in a letter to the head of Insel Soldaten, Simon Dodkins, a copy of which he sent to the JEP. Mr Carter was responding to a written complaint made by Mr Dodkins following a comment article about the group’s appearance at St Clement’s Fete and written by Paula Thelwell, a member of the Holocaust Memorial Day Committee and business development manager at the Heritage Trust. The comment article, which was printed in the JEP, was sparked by a picture of Insel Soldaten members riding on a miniature train at the fete.
