Plans are approved to pave over the Weighbridge

Friday 28th September 2007, 12:00AM BST.

PLANS to pave over the Weighbridge and turn the old bus station into an open public square were approved this morning.

Environment Minister Freddie Cohen formally approved the plans at a meeting at the Members Room at the Société Jersiaise, under the condition that the tree-planting and landscaping are personally approved by Waterfront planning supremo Sir Michael Hopkins. Work can now start on the square, which will accommodate al fresco dining, but plans for a national gallery on the site have yet to be formally presented or approved.
