First Tower ‘terror’ allowed out on bail

A TEENAGE boy said to have terrorised First Tower residents is back at home with his mother – but he has been warned not to contact any of the seven people he allegedly attacked.

The 14-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released from Greenfields by the Youth Court yesterday and granted bail. He faces five assault and two grave and criminal assault charges. He is also accused of causing a breach of the peace, causing malicious damage and violently resisting arrest. He denies committing a grave and criminal assault on a man in King Street on 30 June and has reserved his pleas to the remaining charges. Because of his age, the Assistant Magistrate, Ian Christmas, allowed the boy to go home yesterday despite pleas from the prosecution that it was in the public interest to keep him locked up. Centenier Daniel Scaife and Advocate Robin Morris both argued that there was a very high risk of the boy reoffending, but agreed that a tight curfew and strict conditions would limit the risk.
