Dandara rethink Portelet scheme

A LARGE empty space now dominates the Portelet headland where the holiday village used to stand. But it won’t be there for long.
Two years ago Dandara and site owners Bridgemere Developers were given permission for 52 homes on the Portelet Holiday Village site, but today they have confirmed that they are going back to the drawing board with renowned British architect Sir Richard McCormac and local firm Axis Mason. The decision to rethink the 45 apartments and seven detached homes was taken after the village had been demolished and Dandara realised that their previous scheme was not going to work as planned. Managing director Martin Clancy said that they had no intention of increasing the size of the development but were keen to improve their plans. ‘It’s just a redesign based on what we found when we demolished the building,’ he said. ‘There were a lot of problems with the site relating to the undersoil and the land moving away from the rockface.’
