BUCKINGHAMSHIRE’S Crue Elliott led from start to finish to win the Jersey Players’ Championship at Les Mielles Golf Club by two strokes yesterday.

The Burnham Beeches assistant professional recorded his third under-par round for the 54-hole tournament to win with a record 19-under total of 191 after a two-under-par 68 yesterday.

Second place went to Littlestone’s Anthony Tarchetti with a three-under 67 securing him top place in the South Region’s Order of Merit table.

Tarchetti’s Merit success wins him a place at the PGA’s BMW Championships at Wentworth next May and an entry for the PGA’s National Play-offs in Nottinghamshire later this month.

Tarchetti will be joined in Nottingham by James Ablett (Lee-on-Solent) and Steve Cowle (Farnham) who finished second and third respectively in the Merit table.

Jersey winner Elliott (23), whose overnight three-stroke lead was reduced to one with eight holes remaining, said: ‘Today was good, Ant and I played pretty solidly.

It was good to play with him and not once during the round did I think I was going to let it slip and lose it.

‘At the tenth he got to within a shot after I made a bogey but I didn’t feel like I was going to collapse.

It was a nice feeling to play the last hole with a two-shot cushion and to win overall following three rounds in the 60s was extremely pleasing.’ South Region secretary Jon Sewell said: ‘This week has been a great success, the course has been in excellent condition and this is one of the main reasons why the scoring has been so good.’ Another great success has been the Junior Golf Clinics organised by Les Mielles head professional Wayne Osmand, where all the playing professionals have given up some of their free time to coach Jersey youngsters.
