Crackdown on housing fraud

THE Housing Minister is promising a crackdown on landlords who illegally rent properties to unqualified tenants.

A private law firm has been taken on to deal with prosecutions under the Housing Law, says Senator Terry Le Main, and more court cases are in the pipeline. Speaking in the States yesterday about the recent prosecution of accountant Louise Bracken-Smith, fined £25,000 by the Royal Court on Friday for renting out a five-bedroom house at Gorey to unqualified tenants, he said that the department was taking a hard line on illegal rentals.
