Football:Scottish hit Rovers for six

JERSEY Scottish bounced back from their recent Jeremie Cup defeat to hit Rozel Rovers for six in Division I last night.

The Coca-Cola Combination and Channel Islands champions won 6-0 at Springfield to move them up one place to second on goal-difference above Trinity and two points behind leaders St Paul’s – the latter being their next league opponents at Springfield on Tuesday 23 October.

Reuben Legge notched a brace for the Scots last night and there were singles from junior Jack Boyle, Scott Devlin, Ross Crick and Dave Brodie.

Scottish manager Pat Brennan said: ‘Rozel were without a handful of first-team regulars so we were a bit lucky to be playing them on a night when they had so many missing.

Usually they give us a very good game but last night we scored some early goals and that put the result beyond doubt.

‘Jack Boyle scored a great goal from 30 yards after cutting in from the left, and Dave Brodie scored a similar goal to make it 2-0.

Reuben Legge made it 3-0 shortly before the break and we scored again immediately after half-time to put the game well out of Rozel’s reach.

‘What was pleasing was that we finished the game with eight youngsters on the pitch, and that’s good for our club.

Boyle had another fine game while Legge has lots of pace and energy to burn.

He continues to improve all the time.’ Rozel manager Roy Jeanne said: ‘We were well beaten and in truth the defeat could have been heavier.

The whole of our of regular back four were missing and we had to play players out of position.

‘We didn’t get the balance of the team right and after the first two goals went in early we collapsed a bit.

But we’re looking forward to getting key players back and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.’ ST JOHN reached the last eight of the EH Willis Memorial Trophy last night following a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory against Grouville Reserves at Les Quennevais.

It was 2-2 after 90 and 120 minutes after Stuart Daynes scored twice for Grouville – against his old club – and St John registered through Rob Baker and an own goal.

St John now play St Brelade on Tuesday 16 October at Les Quennevais.
