A SOLDIER who has spent six months fighting in Afghanistan has hit back at suggestions that the Jersey Field Squadron should be scrapped.

Captain Nick Spratley, who served in the lawless Helmand province, fighting Taliban militants, says that Jersey’s TA unit does the Island proud both at home and abroad. His comments come after Senator Stuart Syvret told the States that he would seek to have the TA’s £1m budget withdrawn in protest against the ‘illegal war in Iraq’.
