Move to censure Chief Minister

THE Chief Minister could be formally admonished by the States for publicly questioning the legitimacy of the biggest petition in Channel Island history.

Deputy Alan Breckon has lodged a censure motion against Senator Frank Walker over comments he made to a Chamber of Commerce lunch audience about the GST petition last month. Senator Walker says that he is astonished by the censure motion, lodged a day after he apologised for his remarks. The petition, organised by Deputy Breckon’s Jersey Consumer Council, was signed by 19,209 Islanders who want the May start-date for the 3% sales tax put off until an independent look at alternative taxes has been carried out.
