Heathrow link under threat?

THE Jersey to Heathrow airlink would be under serious threat if proposals to hike up passenger charges at Britain’s busiest airport are approved, airline BMI has warned.

Passenger charges could rise from £18.55 to £35 by 2012. The Island’s aviation authorities will lobby the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to try to stop charges being increased by inflation plus 7.5% a year for five years from next April. BMI, which flies the Jersey to Heathrow route, has reacted angrily to the report from the UK Competition Commission (CC) that recommends that charges levied by Heathrow owners BAA can rise well above inflation.
