THE endangered agile frog is being given a helping hand by John Cleese, who has made a film to highlight its importance.

In the short presentation, the former Monty Python star even referred to the frog, which has long legs, as a possible ‘perfect candidate for the Ministry of Silly Walks’. Mr Cleese gave his services free in support of the agile frog – which is not found anywhere else in Britain – while in the Island to appear in a show at the Opera House in aid of the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. A great supporter of the trust for over 30 years, Mr Cleese was invited by Durrell staff to appear in the film which is for a three-year schools campaign – due to be launched shortly – to highlight the importance of the agile frog and other amphibians. It is being made by Spike Productions. Head of reptiles and amphibians Gerardo Garcia said that Mr Cleese’s contribution to the campaign would be extremely valuable.
