CLUB secretary Paul Walters has retained the Jersey Western Golf Club’s Club Championship title.
At La Moye on Sunday, Walters – who recently won his Club’s Order of Merit Trophy – won a closely-fought final edging out Chris Huelin one-up following a gross round of 71 while Huelin recorded a level par 72.
Huelin, who was the scratch winner in the recent Island Foursomes Championship, went two-up early on following birdies at the twelfth and 14th after the final started at the tenth.
Walters responded immediately to level the scores after birdies at the next two holes leaving both golfers all square at the turn.
Huelin nudged ahead again with his third birdie of the day at the first only for Walters to hit back straight away again with a birdie at the second.
Walters went ahead for the first time following another birdie at the fifth only for Huelin to respond to level the scores following a birdie at the sixth.
Walters won the seventh with his fifth birdie of the round and he retained the Championship after running out with a couple of pars to reduce his handicap to 3.5 in the process.
In the Handicap section, Rab Palmer won 3 and 2 against Mark Vowden.
