£20m windfall
Thursday 18th October 2007, 12:00AM BST.
THE booming economy is believed to have yielded the States an unexpected windfall of up to £20m.
It is understood that when Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur unveils the 2008 Budget next week he will announce that tax receipts have been higher than expected. In 2006, economic growth added an unexpected £21m to the overall tax take, and a similar announcement is expected on Tuesday. It is likely to fuel the debate on stalling the 3% GST, which is due to come into force from May. Next month Members will debate a proposition to delay the tax until alternatives have been investigated.
