Sea defences holding well
Thursday 18th October 2007, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’s sea defences are holding well, but the Island still needs to plan for the future, according to a report published today.
Consultants H R Wallingford, who provided the report for Transport and Technical Services, say that Jersey will not be affected greatly by climate change in the next ten to 20 years but by 2080 sea and wave levels will have risen significantly. They say that the £6 million work to strengthen sea defences in the last five years has been encouraging – and must continue if Jersey is to be protected against increased storms, higher waves and falling beach levels.
