MATTHEW BIGNALL won four titles at the Credit Suisse Jersey Junior Closed Badminton Championship at the weekend.

He secured all three honours in the under-15s section – taking the singles crown ahead of the younger Brett Goodfellow, before pairing up with Richard Streets to beat Brett Goodfellow and Harry Davies in the boys doubles.

In the mixed doubles, with Emily Temple-Redshaw, the pair beat Streets and Natasha Hutchings for the U15s win and then beat Luke Gorman and Marilisa Garnier for the U17s.

Gorman got a taste of success, however, taking the U17s singles after an entertaining final against Peter Blandin – the latter was not to leave empty-handed either, combining with Dan Dupay to defeat Bignall and Streets in a thrilling U17 boys’ doubles final.

The girls’ doubles going to Jade Goodfellow and Marilisa Garnier who beat Temple-Redshaw and Natasha Hutchings 21-13, 21-8.

Hutchings still had a rewarding tournament; winning the U17s singles, on overall points from Jade Goodfellow, and also the U15 singles after defeating Temple-Redshaw following a good final with many long rallies.

Paired with Caroline Bignall, Hutchings also won the U15s doubles, beating Temple-Redshaw and her young partner Becky Cross 21-13, 21-13.

In the top age group, Tom Gibbs defeated Ben Watson to take the U19s boys singles, and Jade Goodfellow impressed with a straight sets victory over the older Katharine Thornton.

Gibbs and Watson took the boys’ doubles, ahead of Blandin and Dupay, with Jade Goodfellow and Garnier clinching the girls’ doubles from Vicky Pearce and Laura Ferrara.

Gibbs and Thornton defeated Watson and Garnier to take the mixed title.

In the youngest age group, Matthew Wallwork won the U11s singles and newcomer Thomas Radiguet, who has several years left in this class, was runner-up.

The two combined to win the doubles, defeating the younger partnership of Austyn Hare and Gianni Despres 21-10, 21-10.

In the U13s, Adam Trotter defeated Joshua Wallace to win the boys’ singles – joining forces to secure the doubles from Wallwork and Radiguet.

In the girls singles, Imogen Malpas claimed the title with Courtney Blampied finishing runner up.
