ROYAL Jersey Golf Club’s Sue Cattell is the September winner of the JEP/ITEX Golfer of the Month award.

The 22-handicapper reduced her handicap by three strokes after a consistent month capped by winning the Royal’s Autumn Medal Mills Cup at Grouville.

And her victory was a fine achievement as her net score of 65 was nine strokes under the standard scratch score on the day.

The Mills Cup winner said: ‘It was an amazing round; I think I could have walked on water that day, the ball ran very kindly for me.

‘I put my success down to being away the previous weekend on a girls’ golfing trip to France where I played three rounds in a row, something I don’t normally do – I usually play just once a week.

‘Yes it was a good month as I also won a prize at the La Moye Open after returning the best Stableford points score.’ Other notable contenders for the September award included La Moye junior James Gibaut, who won won the Bobby Peel Trophy and Le Caudey Cup helping reduce his handicap this year by ten strokes to ten.

Les Ormes member John O’Connor won his Club’s September Stableford with a fine score of 45 points while 39 points were returned by Allan Black at Wheatlands to win the Laurent Perrier Open off eight handicap.

Nick Harrison, of Les Mielles, reduced his handicap by one stroke to eleven after winning the Worthington Bitter Trophy with a net 62 off 12 handicap.

La Moye’s Martin Hanley won his Club’s final Tuesday Evening League match of the summer with 39 Stableford points, not bad for a golfer who has now turned 70.

Dave Grant, of Les Mielles, won the September Medal with a net 63 off nine handicap now reduced to eight.

Fellow Les Mielles member David Brown was in good form too winning the Alderney Cup with an impressive 46 Stableford points.

Jersey Western’s Steve Simon clipped two shots off his handicap, now 12, after winning the Western’s September Medal with a gross 80, net 67.

The judging panel were Jersey Golf Union president Geoff Ramskill, Jersey Ladies Golf Association president Cassandra Holderness, Jersey Evening Post sports journalist Andy Bradshaw and Bruce Ridley and Rob Leader of Itex (Jersey) Limited.
