Appeal for new lifeboat launched
Thursday 25th October 2007, 12:00AM BST.
AN appeal by the RNLI for £1.33 million to buy a new St Helier lifeboat was officially launched at Government House yesterday.
And it was immediately given a boost with a £50,000 cheque from multi-millionaire resident and Grand National-winning owner Trevor Hemmings. The Jersey branch of the charity is aiming to buy a new lifeboat, fitted with state of the art electronic systems and increased safety features, to be ready for service in July. A new Tamar class lifeboat costs £2.6 million, but thanks to three generous bequests received by the branch, the balance needed for the vessel is £1.33 million.
