States approve GST regulations

REGULATIONS governing the 3% Goods and Services Tax have been approved by the States.

Exemptions for school fees, burials, charities and hotel accommodation in 2008 were among the regulations approved, as was the ‘margin scheme’ that will see the tax charged on the price mark-up for used cars, not the full value. Members agreed the Goods and Services Tax Regulations yesterday with little debate – the showdown on whether it will be introduced at all next year will come in the States next month.
