We can cut GST by half!

THE Chamber of Commerce has called for GST to be halved to 1.5 per cent.
In a letter to Treasury Minister Terry Le Sueur, the head of the organisation which represents more than 600 Island businesses says that the sales tax should be reduced to 1.5 per cent for two years in light of the Island’s improved financial position. Chamber president, retired corporate banker Clive Spears, says that the effects of Jersey’s economic boom – Tuesday’s Budget revealed that a predicted £3m deficit had turned into a £38m surplus – and the softened impact of a phased introduction mean that a reduced rate is the way to proceed. But Senator Le Sueur has issued a sceptical response.
