JCRA to hear mast concerns

Friday 26th October 2007, 12:00AM BST.

JERSEY’s competition watchdog will hear complaints from Islanders concerned about radiation from mobile phone masts near their homes.

Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf has announced today that the Jersey Competition and Regulatory Authority (JCRA) will also be responsible for setting up a website showing emission levels from masts, which will be independently tested every two years. Senator Ozouf hopes that the initiatives will help allay the fears from the public about perceived health risks from the masts, which have increased in number since the telecom market was opened to competition. The setting up of a website – which would show the location of every mast on the Island as well as emission levels following random, independent testing – was first recommended in a Scrutiny panel report earlier this year.
