Last-ditch bid to keep tax off food

A LAST stand is being made to exempt basic food, books and newspapers from GST.
Health Minister Ben Shenton is bucking Council of Ministers policy in lodging his proposition for amendments to the 3% sales tax, which is due to be levied in seven months. Under his proposition basic food, books, newspapers and magazines would be zero-rated.
