PEOPLE power has won in a St Helier street where residents opposed a new take-away.
The plans for the Indian establishment in Colombus Street have been refused by the Environment Minister. Senator Freddie Cohen decided at a public planning meeting yesterday that a take-away would lower the quality of life for neighbours. He said that at a time when the States were trying to improve the quality of life for town residents that the application could not be approved. The news was a significant victory for residents, 84 of whom had signed a petition against Alison du Four’s plans for the former butcher’s shop. Angela Flack, who had organised the petition, had pleaded with Senator Cohen at the meeting yesterday to refuse the take-away.
