Diverse success for Jersey

JERSEY youngsters impressed on a big stage over the weekend.

Teenager David Speller retained his title in the short boat class at the Surf Kayak World Championships in Mundaka, Spain.

Aisla McDougall finished third and fourth in both finals and Chris Harvey took third in the men’s open final.

The Jersey team finished third on countback behind Northern Ireland and ahead of England.

Host team, the Basque Country, won the event which is held every two years.

And in the field of martial arts Jersey have a new star in the making with Nicole Fernando winning a gold medal at the World Shukokai Karate Championship in Crete on Saturday, competing in the 10-11 years’ under-40 kilo category.
