New incinerator edges closer

THE new La Collette incinerator came a step closer yesterday when proposals for the site received planning approval.
But work cannot start yet because detailed plans for the ‘energy from waste’ plant have to be approved by the department – and the £80m project has to be backed by the States. Environment Minister Freddie Cohen’s decision to give approval to the location of the plant and the design of the building came after Transport Minister Guy de Faye said that delays to the project could mean costs rising by £18m. The in-principle decision allows for a 121 ft building on the site.
