Union steps up JT sale protest

MOVES by the trade union that represents over 300 Jersey Telecom workers to block the privatisation of the States-owned utility will gather pace this week.

The Amicus branch of the Unite union will step up its ‘Don’t Hang Up on Jersey Telecom’ campaign and also urge Islanders to contact States Members next month to vote against the proposal to sell the business. National officers of Unite will be visiting the Island to mobilise the membership in the final weeks of the union’s campaign. Unite national officer Peter Skyte and regional officer Kevin Egan will be meeting Jersey Telecom members tomorrow night to urge them to lobby their States representatives to vote against the sale.
