THE price of the Millennium Town Park looks likely to double to £9m . . . but ministers say that it will still be delivered by 2011.
The cost of removing the contaminated soil from the Gas Place and Talman sites has gone up dramatically, and ministers say that more money will have to be put agide in 2010 and 2011 to make the project happen.
The contaminated soil must be removed and shipped away from the Island, and replacement parking must be built at the Ann Court housing site before the work can begin.
Chief Minister Frank Walker said that the increased cost was largely due to the very high cost of shipping the toxic material, created by decades of gas works on the site, and including a deep tar pit, away from the Island.
