12 more police on Jersey child abuse team
Saturday 1st March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
TWELVE more investigators are being drafted in by the States police to help them deal with the overwhelming public response to the Haut de la Garenne inquiry.
Among those who contacted officers this week were two people who have made allegations of being the victims of serious sexual crimes.
Deputy police chief Lenny Harper has said that in view of the continuing calls coming in from members of the public providing information, and the escalating nature of their searches, it was necessary to call in more assistance. ‘The volume of work has increased dramatically over the past few days,’ he said.
With the calls from the public bringing
in more claims from alleged victims of abuse, it was likely there would be more suspects to consider as well, he said.
