£1m appeal for Glass Church
Saturday 1st March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
A £1 million appeal is being launched next week to raise money to restore the Glass Church at Millbrook.
The appeal will be launched with a classical concert featuring international artists at the church.
The aim of the appeal is to help restore the unique glass sculptures and pieces of artwork created for the church, officially called St Matthew’s, in the early 1930s by famed French jeweller and glassmaker Rene Lalique.
Lalique was commissioned to create the glass interior by Jersey resident and philanthropist Florence Boot who had the church restored in memory of her husband Jesse, the first Lord Trent and founder of Boots chemist.
