Sex offenders’ register plan ‘by the end of 2008′
Saturday 1st March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
PLANS for a sex offenders register will go to the States by the end of the year, according to Home Affairs Minister Wendy Kinnard.
And the minister will push for £340,000 extra funding for 2009 to set up the Sex Offenders Register and a comprehensive vetting service for people trying to get jobs working with vulnerable adults and children.
Health and Education vet staff at the moment, and have access to a list of ‘unsuitable teachers’, but a new UK scheme set up by the Criminal Records Bureau starts in October under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act, and Senator Kinnard says Jersey needs to have access to it.
