Kate Cadigan won two titles at the Bedell Group Island Squash Championship, beating Rowena Hockey in the ladies’ final and David Steigenberger in the men’s B event.

Mike Hopkins retained his men’s A title with a four-set victory over No 2 seed Rob Hickling. Jon Hibbs beat Paul Frankland for the men’s over-35 title and John Wood beat Hugh Jones for the over-45s. Allen Brown took the over-55 honours after John Farley retired injured. Paul Hickling beat Hugo Tupper for the U13 title, Max Tupper beat Mark Hickling in the U15s and Allan Magee beat George McLeod for the U17 honours.

BADMINTON – Mixed results: The Credit Suisse Jersey County Badminton team lost to Somerset 8-7 on Saturday but bounced back yesterday to beat Dorset 10-5 in Division 2D of the Inter-County Championships.

Jersey defeat: The Credit Suisse Jersey Junior Badminton were beaten to the Leadbeater Shield by Guernsey 31-17. The Island’s U15s won 13-11 but the U13s lost 20-4.

NETBALL – Roaring victory: London Lionhearts I beat Convent 10-8 in the final to win the Jersey Netball Open Trophy yesterday. St Lawrence finished seventh. SAS Reds beat Old Actonians B to win the Plate. Accies were sixth and Saints (St Lawrence B) were eighth.

GYMNASTICS – Top honours: Regent Gymnastics Club’s Charlotte Pollard (9) was crowned regional champion in passing grade four at the Southern Region Club Grades Competition in Milton Keynes. Others who passed were Olivia Pollard, Keira Lambert, Jasmine O’Donoghue (grade four); Elizabeth Appleyard (grade three); Louise Mollet, Charlotte Sweeney, Lisa Day (grade two).

FENCING – Channel Series: Harriet Christie won the U17 Girls’ foil at the Channel Series in Guernsey and Steph Button was first in the U15s, finishing third in the U17s. The two girls were joint third in the U17 Epee. Ralph Spencer Tucker was second, Jonathan Bernstein third, and James Howard fifth in the U17 Boys’ sabre. Patrick Howard was fifth in the Boys’ epee and William Bougourd 11th in the foil.

GOLF – Les Ormes win: Les Ormes beat Wheatlands 4-3 in the Hampshire 7s Preliminary Round yesterday.

Super Seva: Giavanni Seva, 11 handicap, won the Royal Jersey Golf Club R Le Masurier Trophy on Saturday with a net score of 63. Mark Warren, 9 hcp, was second on 66 and Stuart Crossan, 4 hcp, third on 70.

Monthly Medal: Kenny Marshall, 10 hcp, won the St Clement Golf Club March Monthly Medal on Sunday with a three-under net 59. Second was Ray Cairney, 12 hcp, with a net 60. Alan Allison recorded a hole in one at the 135-yard par-three sixth hole using a seven iron.

Horgan top

Paul Horgan, 5 hcp, won Division I of the Les Mielles GC March Medal with a net 67. Frank De Ornelas, 11 hcp, was second and Nick Harrison, 11 hcp, third, both scoring 67. In Division II Phil Caie, 21 hcp, took victory with a net 68. Paul Rogan, 23 hcp, was second on 69 and Ian O’Brien, 13 hcp, third on 71.

Beeley wins: Ian Beeley, 11 hcp, won the Demi Golf Society March Monthly Medal with 64 points. Chris McNabb, 16 hcp, was second on 65 and Jon Carter, 14 hcp, third on 66.

Team Shotgun: K O’Toole, P Stone, M Peters, and M Allitt won the La Moye Golf Club Team Shotgun competition two from four Stableford on Saturday with a score of 95.

HOCKEY – Vets on top: OV Vets beat second-placed OV Victims 3-2 on Saturday in the JHA Investec League Men’s Division II. Other results: Harrod Trophy: Investec Jersey 2, Henley 7; Jersey Tigers 2, Vic College 2nds 4; Jersey Lions 3, IFG HHC Hunters 0. Development Minor Cup: E&Y Quackers 5, Eagles Juniors 8.

SHOOTING – Inter-parish shoot: St Martin won the annual inter-parish shoot organised by the Jersey Smallbore Shooting Association on Saturday. The team of Dave Ahier, Sue Ahier, Scott Douglas and David Turner scored 1,416 to beat St Helier (1,367) and St Clement (1,342). Douglas was the top scorer on 383.

Honours shared: Sean Leonard, Maurice Davy and Terry Miller shared the High Gun honours in Crabbe Clay Pigeon Club’s 50-Bird Sporting yesterday with 46 ex 50. Other winners: B Class: Chris L’Amy 40; C Class: Fernando Carvalho 33; Veteran: John Bedford 37.

Andrews on a high: Mark Andrews was High Gun in yesterday’s Lecq Clay Target Club 50-Bird Sporting with 45 ex 50 to win Class AA. Other results: Class AAA: 1, Ashley Le Sech 41. Class A: 1, Dave Le Rendu and Graham Le Cornu 41; 3, Ernie Le Brun 39. Class B: 1, Billy Jones 39; 2, Alistair Drummond-Forbes and Andy Stead 38. ATHLETICS – Junior League: The final race in the JSAC Cross-Country League took place on Saturday. CYCLING – Road racing begins

Dave Mayman and Kevin Pilley won the Caesarean Cycling Club Two-Up Time Trial yesterday. The field was made up of pairs and single riders, with Vince Peron taking second place and Marc Nicol with Matt Gambles third.

Mountain Bikes: Adam Wojtkiewicz won the Elite Class at the CCC Mountain Bike Winter Series. Other winners: Sport: Graham Horsley; Veteran: Bruce Dingle; Super-Vets: Chaz Knight; Ladies: Helen Monpetit-Le Brun; Schoolboys: George Milner.

MOTOR SPORT – Karting roars off: Results from the first race of the Jersey Kart and Motor Club season were as follows: Cadet Comer (2 stroke): 1, Edward Fossey; 2, Harry Torpy; 3, David Arthur. Cadet Honda (4 stroke): 1, Michael Gibaut; 2, Lewis Boschat; 3, Brittany Vautier. Mini-max: 1, Ross Pinel. Max: 1, James Montgomery; 2, Edward Verrechio; 3, Hugo Wilson. SAILING – Dinghy racing: Martin Speller’s Liquid Logic won both race 11 and 12 in Class A of the Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club Winter Dinghy Series on Saturday. Knot A Clew (A Harrison) was second and Ndoto (Jeff Speller and Malcolm Le Couteur) were third.
