Saints and Pies to meet in Touzel Cup final

Monday 3rd March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.

ST LAWRENCE and Magpies will play in the PW Touzel Memorial Trophy final next month after both won their semi-finals on Saturday.

Both clubs had lost twice in Division II matches this season to their respective opponents, but they avenged those reverses by winning 3-1.

St Lawrence won after extra-time against divisional leaders Sporting Academics and the ‘Pies defeated St Ouen – a team they lost 6-0 against just a fortnight ago.

Scott Kelly hit a brace and Nathan Maguire a single in St Lawrence’s success after Jamie Savory had fired the Accies ahead.

St Ouen’s second defeat in 23 matches in all competitions came courtesy of two goals by Matt Pamplin and one by Paul Duffy. Michael Norman was on target for the losers.

The Touzel final is at Springfield on Tuesday 15 April.

Portuguese Club retained their five-point lead at the top of Division II Reserves from St Clement after both won, the Portuguese 9-1 against St Lawrence at Les Quennevais and St Clement 4-0 against Magpies at the Airport.

Joao Mendonca (three), Nelson Aviero (two), Emmanuel Alves, Johnny Pestana, Joao Antunes and Vitor Antunes notched for Portuguese, and Chris Le Lion was on target for St Lawrence.

St Clement, who play Portuguese in their last divisional match next month, won following two goals by Matt Rawlings and singles from Jon Tuck and Paul Tumelty. Sporting Academics and Trinity held on to third and fourth positions respectively after keeping cleans sheets against Beeches Old Boys and St John.

Tom O’Hara grabbed all three goals in Trinity’s 3-0 win at St John, while Bobby Melim hit a hat-trick and Dave Rooney and Steve Neild singles in the Accies’ 5-0 success at the IJ Bathe Field against the Old Boys.

Martyn Jubb also scored a treble in Jersey Nomads’ 5-2 win against St Martin/SCF. Chris Bowden and Lee Jeanne also scored for the winners at the FB Fields, with Davie Nesbit replying twice for the Saints.

Grouville, from a game played more, joined Jersey Wanderers in joint top place in Division C following an 8-0 victory against Sporting Academics at the FB Fields. On target for the winners were James Walsh (two), Paul Cilia (two), Jason Byrne, Steve Ashton, Peter de Momme and Sam Baldwin.

St Peter and St Brelade both won 6-1 to remain third and fourth respectively. St Peter won at home against Rozel Rovers thanks to goals by Rab Campbell (two), Gary Bateley, Tom O’Donoghue, Colin Wood and Nigel Godfrey. Juma Salmin replied.

Dominic Pougelle struck St Ouen’s consolation at home to St Brelade, who registered their goals through Dave Fitton (two), Gary Hirst, Mike Donoghue and Nathan Brown together with an own goal.

St Clement also won on their travels, 3-0 at St Martin/SCF, where Martin Aubert scored twice and Roberto Sousa once.
