Senator revives another past abuse case
Monday 3rd March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
A REPORT claiming that orphans were savagely beaten and abused at another States care home was handed to the world’s media at the weekend.
Senator Stuart Syvret distributed the report which says that children were beaten with weapons, made to eat bars of soap and had Dettol poured down their throats by a couple who ran a smaller children’s home in the Island during the 1980s.
The couple who ran it, who are not being named for legal reasons, were charged with the alleged abuses and appeared in the Magistrate’s Court. But the prosecution was abandoned because of insufficient evidence in November 1998.
