Walker confirms Whitehall talks
Tuesday 4th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
CHIEF Minister Frank Walker has confirmed that Friday’s meeting with the Ministry of Justice was held to update them about the child abuse investigation in the wake of national media coverage.
The Attorney General and Jersey’s top civil servant travelled to London to brief the Ministry of Justice on unfolding events in the investigation.
Senator Walker said the meeting was called at Jersey’s request.
Attorney General William Bailhache and States chief executive Bill Ogley represented Jersey on the visit.
Senator Walker said: ‘The UK government is responsible for our international affairs, which of course includes our reputation, and as you can imagine they must have been more than a bit alarmed by reading what they have been reading in the press, and seeing the television coverage.
