SOLENN PASTUREL and Mariana Agathangelou are out of the Yonex All England Badminton Championships as they both lost in qualifying yesterday.
Pasturel beat American Lauren Todt 21-17, 21-6 in the first round but could not overcome a tough second round opponent in Jill Pittard who won 21-5, 21-13.
Agathangelou, competing in the ladies’ doubles with Gabby White, had a bye in the first round but came unstuck against Scotland’s Imogen Bankier and England’s Sarah Bok who recorded a 21-12, 23-21 win to make the main draw.
Jersey’s national champion Elizabeth Cann , who was to be the top seed in qualifying, was promoted to the main draw following the withdrawal of the German No 1 and plays China’s Yanjiao Jiang, world ranked 21, in the first round at the National Indoor Arena, Birmingham, this evening.
