Asbestos alert in farm blaze
Thursday 6th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
FOUR people were decontaminated and taken to hospital yesterday after fears of asbestos poisoning following a fire at a farm in St John.
The two farmworkers and two paramedics had complained of itchiness and sore throats – symptoms of exposure to chemicals such as asbestos – but asbestos poisoning was later ruled out.
The cause of the fire at Chalet Farm, Chemin de Herupe, which started at about 3 pm, had not been established by this morning.
The animals, including 30 calves rescued from the stable, are thought to have been unharmed.
