Final resting place of a Jersey hero
Friday 7th March 2008, 12:00AM GMT.
AFTER more than 200 years the resting place of Jersey’s military hero has been revealed.
A bricked-up vault under the Town Church has been confirmed as the final resting place of Major Francis Peirson, who died in the Battle of Jersey.
A large Latin inscription plate surrounded by military decoration is still visible on his coffin, as are the remains of what was a military flag that lay across it.
The vault, located underneath a large stone with ‘Peirson’ carved into it, was opened this week as part of the church’s restoration.
