Free bus travel to continue for HIE cardholders

AROUND 400 Islanders who get free bus travel through Health Insurance Exemption cards will still receive it for a year despite the HIE scheme’s cancellation.
That scheme, for people on low incomes, has been absorbed into the Income Support package, but Transport Minister Guy de Faye is to allow free bus travel to continue.
In November, the States unanimously backed a proposition from the Health, Social Security and Housing scrutiny panel to ensure that recipients would continue to get free bus travel, free Active cards and free access to the fitness referral scheme.
But the free bus pass arrangement will be reviewed every year.
